KPA commits to support education sector

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has committed to play its part in supporting the education sector by funding the construction of numerous infrastructure in schools.

Led by the acting managing director John Mwangemi, the organization recently constructed classrooms and administration blocks in various coastal schools.

Speaking in Voi during the handing over of classrooms and administration blocks, Mwangemi said KPA is committed to ensure that all students access quality education.

“The free primary education policy and the 100 percent transition policy in secondary schools has led to a surge in student population and a strain in school infrastructure hence there is need for organizations and all stakeholders to chip in and provide the requisite facilities,” he said.

The KPA boss presided over the handing over of a Ksh 2 million fully furnished classroom at Kale Primary School, a Ksh 1 million administration block at Pricillah primary school and another administration block at Kalela primary school which cost Ksh 4 million.

“Since 2,000, KPA has supported socio-economic developments through cash donations and actual construction of structures,” said Mwangemi.

Mwangemi pointed out that in the last two decades, KPA had invested over Ksh 500 million towards community outreach programmes.

“To date, we have constructed over 60 structures notably laboratories, dormitories, classrooms, administration blocks as well as dispensaries in the country,” he proudly said, adding that the organization firmly believes that investing in education will help secure the future of Kenyan children.

Mwangemi emphasized that each member of the society has a role to play in improving students’ learning experiences.

He concluded by encouraging pupils and students to uphold discipline and hard work to excel in their studies.
