Stakeholders laud governor’s initiative to reward best schools in co-curricular activities

Education stakeholders from Makueni County have lauded Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior for holding a gala luncheon to recognize and award the winning teams in the just concluded music festivals and games competitions.

Speaking during the event held at Makueni PWD Vocational Training Centre, KESSHA Makueni branch chairman Julius Mutwii   thanked the governor for his vision in the education sector and added that his initiative will encourage other students to perform better during the next competitions.

He went on to add that such an initiative has never happened in the county and that the best thing about it is how mindful it is of the welfare of the young generation.

“We urge the governor to continue hosting such events. I would also like to urge learners to work hard both in class and co-curricular activities,” he added

He congratulated Mwaani Girls for presenting a choral verse about the governor which carried the day.

“Congratulations Mwaani Girls Principal Joan Muchina. Your school has produced the best piece of the day and entire year,” Mutwii proudly stated.

Concerning national exams, the chairman urged candidates to put their best foot forward and thoroughly revise for the exams that are around the corner.

Eastern regional KEPSHA chairman Nicholas Musyoka said the event was one of its kind and added that in future, ECDE kids should also participate.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Makueni branch Executive Secretary Benson Ndambuki noted that with the introduction of such an event, students will even be more motivated to do better in co-curricular activities.

He went on to add that the union will work together for the betterment of students and the county at large.

His Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) counterpart Erastus Kimetu called upon students to make hard work their passion.

He also assured the governor that teachers from the region will work together with the government to improve the education standards in the area.

While appreciating the support received, Governor Mutula noted that he will support and nurture talents since they are a form of employment.

He urged teachers to be creative and come up with choral verses and other items that promote Makueni county, especially in areas like agriculture and tourism and conservation.

AIC Mutongu, Kitikyumu, AIC Kathonzweni, ACK Wote Primary School, Makueni Boys, Mwaani Girls, Makueni Girls, Mukaa Girls, Mbooni Boys, Mukameni Mixed and Thomeandu Boys are some of the schools which were awarded trophies.
