Ousted parents’ head faces jail term

The embattled National Parents Association (NPA) Chairman, Nicholas Maiyo has been ordered to appear in court after he refused to hand over the position to the recently elected chairman, Mr. Silas David Obuhatsa.

Justice Mugure Thande urged Mr. Maiyo, Jeremiah Nyakundi and Sarah Kagendo Mitambo who defied the order directed by Justice Hedwiq Ong’udi to face the court on 6th October, 2022 and explain why they violated court orders.

Speaking at Milimani Law Courts, Mr. Obuhatsa said that when they went to the association offices at Re-insurance Plaza for the hand-over, they were denied access to the offices.

It is claimed that Mr. Maiyo told the public that they should not worry because he was not going to relinquish the position and that he was going to continue offering his services to the parents.

“The elections were done from classroom level to national level and for one to get the top seat, one should have children in public primary and secondary schools,” Maiyo added.

Obuhatsa‘s team urged the court to punish the Maiyo team for contempt of court.

They told the court that over the past days Maiyo’s team have been boasting that they will not comply with the court orders.

To this end, Mr. Obuhatsa has applied to have the outgoing officials arrested and arraigned.
