CS Machogu urged to seek advice from Kisii elders

By Enock Okong’o

A section of elders from Kisii County have welcomed the appointment of Ezekiel Machogu as Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) but asked him to seek the their advice on how to manage the great responsibility entrusted to him.

Led by Samson Ogeto, they termed him a reflection of their community and said that when needed, they would offer advisory services.

“He now carries the image of the community at the national level. We promise him all possible advisory services he needs as soon as he is ready,” said Ogeto.

Quoting the Swahili saying Chungu kuu halikosi ukoko (there is wisdom in old age), Ogeto asked Machogu not  to disregard the Abagusii Council of elders who are the custodians of sociopolitical knowledge.

Their concern came after learning that Machogu had consulted the region’s elected MPs on the best way to start discharging his ministerial duties.

Reliable sources revealed that the incoming CS had met some of the elected and ex-leaders from Kisii including: Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Japhet Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Zahel Jandah (Nyaribari Chache), Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South) and former Kitutu Masaba MP. Walter Nyambati.

Also in the team was Eamsy Okenyuri, the former Administrative Secretary in President Ruto’s office when he was Deputy president and Joash Nyamoko of North Mugirango.

“We met to welcome him as our new CS and forge the best way forward on how to work as a team,” revealed South Mugirango MP, Sylivanus Osoro.

He revealed that among the proposals they made was how to face the largely debated Competency Based Curriculum education system, raising of education standards in the country and the National examinations to be conducted in November.

Osoro congratulated Machogu for starting his work with determination and wished him success.
