Alumni association pledges to support infrastructural development

Old boys of Ambira High School in Ugunja subcounty have embarked on an ambitious program of supporting infrastructural development in the institution with the aim of enhancing academic performance.

According to the Chairman of Ambira High School’s Alumni class of 1990 Dr. Caleb Okumu, they discovered that the school had a serious deficit of infrastructure.

“We have resolved to work with other stakeholders and like-minded organizations to put up more classrooms, laboratories and dormitories at the institution to help improve academic standards. We will begin with constructing one laboratory,” he said.

Dr. Okumu was speaking at a hotel in Siaya town during a luncheon they had organized for teachers to motivate and celebrate the 2021 KCSE sterling performance.

The chairman was flanked by the Chief Principal of Ambira High School Mr. Joseph Otieno K’auko who confirmed that they had infrastructural challenges owing to the government policy on 100% transition which has seen their enrollment increase yearly.

He stated that they were in the process of putting up more classrooms which were still not enough, noting that the support from the old boys would benefit them a great deal.

Despite the challenges, Mr. K’auko revealed that they managed to post a positive deviation registering a mean of 8.46 in the 2021 KCSE examinations up from 7.65 in 2020.

Out of the 310 students who sat for the examinations, they managed to take 280 to the university.
