Over 100 students from Elgeyo Marakwet County have been released to pursue various courses in different universities in Finland.
The cohort is the second batch of students to the European nation as the first one continues with their studies in Nursing at Tempere University; 25 of the students are set to join the same institution to study nursing and the rest are joining Tredu University.
While flagging off the students, County Governor, Alex Tolgos, said the program is the devolved unit’s move to improve skills and exploring job opportunities in the international market.
The county chief congratulated the students for securing what he termed as coveted opportunities to travel and study overseas.
“Airlifting of students to overseas countries is not only aimed at gaining education but also exploring job opportunities in the international market. We are expecting these students to secure employment opportunities in Finland and other European countries” Tolgos said.
He applauded parents for embracing the programme, saying it was a worthwhile investment.
“This investment you have put is a lifetime opportunity. It is definitely a game changer in the students’ lives,” remarked Tolgos.
On his part, Max Global Director, Cornelius Kiplagat, whose agency is instrumental in the students’ airlifting partnership challenged the students to be good ambassadors of the county in Finland.
