Foundation pledges to support programmes in education, drums support for aspirant

The Barasa Foundation has vowed to support education programmes in the vast Malava Sub-county in return to the latter supporting preferred gubernatorial candidate come the August general elections.

The foundation through its leadership while speaking in Matsakha market in Manda/Shivanga ward said it was time the constituents rallied behind Fernandes Barasa for Kakamega Governor’s seat.

The sentiments were made during the home coming ceremony of the Patron of Voice of Malava Lawrence Doli Mukoyani who is marshalling the Kakamega North sub county votes in support of Barasa

Dr. Connie Lusweti, a lecturer at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) who is lobbying to deputize Barasa said it was a shame that the largest Sub-county was lagging behind in matters development and it was time for new leadership to take over.

“This Sub-county has many primary and secondary schools and many of the children face a lot of challenges in accessing their education and that is why we are teaming up with the voice of Malava to push for the education agenda and we can only do this through registering as many voters as possible to elect leaders like us who are education oriented and with team Barasa on board we will reach out to many neglected children both from the primary to the university level,” he said.

At the same time, the aspiring woman representative for Kakamega County Dr. Loice Agoi said it was time for the voters to consider electing Women leaders to both the county and national positions noting that women in power consider education more serious and will do anything to ensure that a society is enlightened through education.

“We want to be elected so that we bring the desired changes as we take education very seriously unlike our opponents. We will ensure that there is a technical college within here to accommodate those students in need of technical skills and we will support the bright and needy students to continue with their education,” said Dr. Agoi.

The Butali/Chegulo ward aspiring MCA Jonah Barasa (JB) confirmed that the ward had many untapped talent that needed to be nurtured and it is only through the availability of necessary kits and sponsorships that they can attain this.

“We will see to it that education and talent goes hand in hand so that we can produce fully better scholars and athletes. Sports have become the fastest way to create employment and generate income to our youngsters,” he said.

The Patron of Voice of Malava Lawrence Doli Mukoyani said the programme has been on the fore front in supporting primary, secondary and tertiary education throughout the seven wards in the Sub-county where it has its representation.

“We have been in operation for quite some time and we have been assisting children in school feeding programmes, fee payment and as we are now forming a working team with the Barasa foundation, it is our prayer that we shall reach out to more needy students and change more lives in Malava” promised the Patron.
