Kisii County Education Board Chairman Prof. Henry Onderi has put bar owners whose business premises are near schools on notice.

He said that his team had discovered that the bar operators violet the law by sneaking beer and other drugs to students.

While speaking at his Kisii office, the don asked the police to intensify surveillance and spot checks to arrest the known people who have been selling liquor to learners.

The professor also complained against the bar owners who played loud music without knowing that they were disturbing the students in the nearby schools.

“Our children especially the candidates need tranquil environment as they revise for their National examinations,” he advised.

He warned the bar owners near schools to conduct their businesses with decorum before his board use the force of the law to close them down, saying that the environment near schools should be kept clean and silent.

The chairman asked the bar owners to find safe ways of disposing the empty alcohol bottles and tins which he said, are health hazards.

“These broken bottles pause danger to our pupils who use the paths to school,” he reminded them.

The education boss asked the County Director of Alcohol Council Board to close all bars that did not comply with the operational guidelines.
