The Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) of Rongai Division in Nakuru County has forcefully returned to school a young mother who had been denied entry after delivering a child recently.
The ACC, Daniel Mutemi brought the teenage mother, who is also an opharn back to Kimangu Day Secondary School where the school Principal Julius Gachoki had suspended her five months ago after she was suspected of carrying the pregnancy.
The mother who delivered four months ago and wanted to return to prepare for the forthcoming KCSE examinations was not accepted back to school also on suspicion that she had been married off, an allegation that the ACC denied.
During the dramatic event at Kimangu Day, Mutemi issued a stern warning to both secondary and primary school heads that they risk arrests if they are found to frustrate efforts by the government, parents and guardians who want their daughters to return to school after cases such as pregnancies, adding that the constitution protects them.
The ACC while ushering the student back to school came in full uniform while being escorted by officers fully loaded on a police landcruiser and another vehicle belonging to the area Ngumba Kumi Chairman Andrew Koros.
The student who was accompanied by a neighbour and village elders was welcomed by a few female teachers who requested anonymity as the school principal was not in school at the moment.
“The girl has been frequenting the school every morning for the last four weeks but she has been denied to go to class to continue with her studies. She needs to be given a conducive environment to recover lost time,” said a furious Mutemi.
He therefore ordered the school to admit the young mother without any condition.
