Kisii County Watch and Governance Organization has blamed the Ministry of Education for allowing too much freedom to students in schools, something that brings indiscipline among learners.

Speaking at Kisii town, the organization’s secretary Mrs. Rachael Otundo said that the Principal Secretary in the ministry Dr. Julius Juan erred when he asserted that head teachers and school principals should allow students to go home any time they demand to leave school.

The remarks were made by the PS when he visited Sironga National Girls’ School to inspect the construction of modern class rooms to boost the CBC and ICT learning in schools.

“If a student wants to go home, let them go to avoid burning schools, they can burn parents’ homes instead,” he said.

Mrs. Otundo said that such freedom will deprive principals and their teachers the authority of the controlling learners.

“Doing this will be putting the cart before the horse,” lamented the secretary.

Mrs. Otundo termed utterances by the PS as an unfortunate message that was not supposed to come from such a respected leader.

She asked the PS to resign or apologize for exhibiting weaknesses of cowardice in the service.

The outspoken Secretary who was accompanied by her Chairman Mr. Jimmy Momanyi decried the high cases of indiscipline in schools and attributed them to the unpredictable circulars from the TSC and the Ministry of education that leave teachers confused.

“Let the Ministry of Education and the TSC avoid intimidating heads of institutions and their teachers if normalcy has to return to our schools,” she appealed.

Saying that pupils learn through imitation, the secretary asked adults to guard their talks and actions to enable the learners to emulate them. She asked politicians and other public leaders to be exemplary in order to enable children embrace the culture of maintaining peace in society.
