KNEC boss decries high failure rate in KCSE examinations

By Kambi Karani

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chief executive Officer, Dr. David Njengere has decried mass failure by candidates in their final Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations every year.

Speaking during the 17th KEPSHA Annual conference in Mombasa county recently, he disclosed that the mass failures in national examinations has caused great concern to the general public, and the government should therefore take urgent steps to rescue the prevailing situation.

He urged secondary school teachers in the country to manage the transformation in education progression from over reliance on Summative Assessment to Formative Assessment to enhance education levels.

“Very few As, Bs and C+ are achieved in the final examinations, half of the candidate’s score Grade E in the examinations” he said.
