The Government has set aside Sh1.1 billion for development of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) Satellite College in Eldoret.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town during the inaugural graduation of the first students of the campus, Chief Executive Officer Hiram Mucheke said the construction of the fully-fledged campus will kick off in mid-2022.
“The government has set aside Sh 1.1 billion for the construction of KIMC Eldoret Satellite College. Already forty million shillings has been released by the government to facilitate the fencing of the piece of land which was donated by the Uasin Gishu County Government,” said the CEO.
He added they are committed to seeing the institution grow and have colleges across the country.
“We are committed to seeing the Eldoret Campus grow into a fully-fledged media training institution. Next year the government has allocated a further Sh 100 million for the construction of the tuition block,” he said.
KIMC and the County government of Uasin Gishu signed an MOU to facilitate the setting up of the Eldoret campus in 2018.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago called upon the Institute’s management to consider setting up additional campuses across the Regional Economic Blocs.
“This will make it easier for students wishing to equip themselves with knowledge and skills in digital video, photography and communication. This will also save on transport and accommodation costs,” governor Mandago said.
29 graduates were conferred with certificates in Film/Video programmes production (directing option).
“My government is committed to supporting the institute’s growth to a fully-fledged institution that continues to produce highly skilled technical and professional personnel through hands-on training in the communication sector,” he said.
