Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected to officiate the opening of Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Awendo constituency, Migori County on December 1st 2021.
The college, which nears completion, has been fully funded by the national government through the Awendo National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) at a cost of Shs 55 million.
Area Member of Parliament Hon. Walter Owino said the idea of establishing the college was born during a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
‘I have the blessings of the president.’ He said.
Speaking during the disbursement of bursaries across the constituency in July this year, the MP pledged to support the first a hundred students from his constituency who will enroll for medical courses at the institution.
“In a bid to help curb the shortage of medical officers both at the county level and the national level, I saw it wise to come up with a project of constructing a medical college within my constituency that will increase the number of students studying medical courses across the nation. This has since become a reality through the support of the president.” Said Owino.
Hon. Raila Odinga had also officiated the ground breaking of the college’s construction in April 2019.
