An orphan, who failed to join secondary school because of lack of school fees, has finally been admitted into form one at Dr Aloo Gumbi Secondary school in Kisumu East.
Michele Achieng sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams at Judea Complex Primary School in Kisumu County and scored 322 marks out of the possible 500 marks.
Mr. George Opiyo Nyangwe, the principal of Dr Aloo Gumbi Secondary School, heard of her plight and allowed her to study at his institution which has a student population of over 1,000.
‘Initially, I was to be admitted at Rae Girls High School but I couldn’t secure my chance because of failing to have the requisite admission fees.’ Michele said.
She added that her parents died before Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha released the results of KCPE exams.
Nyangwe, who is also the chairperson of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association Kisumu County , revealed that plans were underway to admit Michele’s sister, who scored 250 marks but couldn’t join form one, at the same institution.
