Former Vice President and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on the government to reinstate feeding programme in schools. This is due to the looming drought and hunger that has hit most parts of the country.
“Primary school children have been suffering a lot. They need something to bite in school for smooth learning, thus concentration,” he said.
Kalonzo was speaking during the campaign tour for Eshio Mwaiwa who is contesting with Wiper party at Nguu-Masumba ward after the former MCA died in road accident months ago leaving the seat vacant.
He was accompanied by other key principals in OKA alliance including Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Cyrus Jirongo among others.
Kalonzo who is also among the presidential aspirants, promised that once he gets elected, his government will fight corruption and use the money which ends up in the pockets of few people to offer free secondary education since there is enough money to cater for that.
“It has never been witnessed, corruption just like reported between the year 2013 to 2017 and we are still experiencing it. That money could have been used for free secondary school to ease parents the burden of school fees,” Kalonzo said.
He called on Members of parliament to be fair in distribution of bursaries especially to vulnerable single mothers, orphans and other needy school going children.
He however noted that Makueni County was the only county in Ukambani without public university safe for South Eastern Kenya University campus, and that he was pushing for one with the help of the Ministry of Education.
“Soon we will have Wote University. I know people are thirsty for higher education. I call upon everybody willing to pursue higher education to do so when it is started,” he added.
