Ofafa Jericho High School in Nairobi has been closed for three days following a fire incident on Monday, 20th September leaving 50 students hospitalized.

Form Four students are required to report back on Friday as the rest of the students return on Monday.

The cause of the fire, which razed down a dormitory, is being investigated by fire investigators and police officers.

The students who severely inhaled smoke were hospitalized at Metropolitan Hospital, Nairobi.

The Metropolitan Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe said that no student was at risk or suffered any burn wounds.

“We received 50 young men reported to have been in a fire incident at their school. They tried to put out the fire and in the process inhaled the smoke. Most of them have suffered smoke inhalation attacks,” he said.

He noted that few of the students needed admission at the hospital for 24 hours to be closely monitored, although all of them were out of danger.

He noted that doctors at the facility had already treated and discharged 15 students.
