Mwatate Member of Parliament in Taita Taveta County, Mr. Andrew Mwadime has attributed low education levels in the county to lack of School Feeding Programme (SFP) which collapsed several years ago in the country.
According to the legislator, many primary school children in the county do not attend their daily lessons due to lack of food both at home and school.
He therefore urged the government to revive the SFP in all primary schools across the country in a bid to retain children in schools.
“The move would equally raise the enrolment of children in schools, hence promote education in the region,” the legislator noted.
He also asked education stake holders in the county to work as a team and equip schools with the essential physically learning facilities to enable children to learn under healthy environment.
He disclosed that needy but bright secondary school students from poor families in the constituency will be given scholarships to enable them to pursue their education.
