OYUU TAKES OVER FROM SOSSION

Collins Henry Oyuu  now takes over the leadership of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) as the next Secretary General  following the resignation of Wilson Sossion on Friday.

Oyuu, who has been the KNUT Acting National Chairman, was elected unopposed today Saturday June 26, 2021 during the union’s elections held at Ruaraka Sport Grounds in Nairobi.

He becomes the seventh KNUT Secretary General and will hold the seat for the next five years until 2026.
Addressing the media today at the venue of election, Oyuu you reteriated his commitment of restoring the union and urgently restoring good working relationship with the employer, Teachers Service Commission.
He condemned the recent announcement by the Salaries and Renumeration Commission of freezing salary increment for the civil servants, stating that they will only listen from the employer regarding the matter.
Other candidates that went unopposed include Hesbon Otieno (Deputy Secretary-General), Patrick Kariga (Chairperson), James Ndiku (National Treasurer) and Hussein Ali Abdi (Deputy National Treasurer), while the rest of the positions mostly had two candidates contesting.
Sossion, who is also a nominated Member of Parliament, resigned as Secretary General of the union day before the Union’s elections.

“In the interest of KNUT continuity and its membership, I hereby on June 25, 2021 bow out of KNUT leadership honorably. I shall remain loyal to KNUT and will always be available to advice and support the leadership of the union,” said Sossion.
