Private school owners have called upon the Ministry of Education to continue with the calendar of resuming back to school.
They argued that the Covid-19 lock down on five counties should not interfere with pupils and students going back to school as they are safer in school than at home.
Director Green Cottage Academy in Kiamumbi Kiambu County Reverend Peter Muraguri said that while pupils are at home they have no supervision in keeping themselves safe from being infected but while in schools there are several guidelines and protocols being observed and at the same time they will be learning.
“We have adhered to the protocols given by the ministry of health in securing the pupils from contracting Covid-19 and as of now the pupils while at home are not so keen on keeping themselves safe from being infected. Schools should resume as prescribed so that their learning may not be cut short,” said Muraguri.
The Vicar in charge of ACK St Andrews School in Zimmerman Nairobi County Isaac Gathira School said that school children should be allowed back to school when schools resume so that the pupils can be able to continue with their learning and not waste time.
Gathira said that whereas the immune system of the pupils is high all teachers ought to be vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine to avoid infections.
“Teachers should be in the first line to get the Covid-19 jab so that as schools resume they too will be safe. Health protocols in schools should be highly regarded and also the pupils to be educated on how they can keep themselves safe from diseases as a precaution,” said Gathira
Stephanie Wambui of ACK St Andrews School who scored 409 marks said that she was happy with what she scored and it was through hard work commitment and help of teachers taking the candidates through revision via virtual means that led to her success.
She hopes to join Alliance Girls and aspires to become a pediatrician in future.
The school had a mean score of 363 points
Wilson Mandera of Green Cottage Academy scored 420 marks and wants to join Alliance Boys High School. He aspires to become a pilot.
