Senior officials from the Ministry of Education yesterday supervised and overseen container opening at 6 am in various places countrywide as Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) enters its second day.

According to the scheduled released by the Ministry’s Communication Director Mr. Kennedy Buhere, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha was in Machakos County to supervise the distribution exercise after overseeing the container opening at Machakos Town today at 6 am.

His Principal Secretary counterpart Dr. Julius Juan supervised the exercise in Uasin Gishu County after overseeing container opening at Eldoret Town, while Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chairman John Onsati was in Mombasa County after overseeing container opening at Kisauni.

Chief Administrative Secretaries Hassan Noor Hassan and Dr. Sarah Ruto supervised the examination in Garissa and Machakos Counties respectively after overseeing container opening of the examination materials in Garissa Town and Kangundo Containers respectively.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer Mercy Karogo was in Nairobi County to supervise the exercise and oversaw the container opening of the examination materials in Kamkunji.

The day two papers were Science, Kiswahili and Insha which stared at 8:30 am as per the KNEC timetables and ended at 3:00 p.m.  The examination is expected to end on March 24, 2021 with Social Studies and Religious Education papers.

On the first day of the examinations, four of the eight invigilators who had been deployed to invigilate the examinations at Kisii Primary did not show up.

The school which has eight examination rooms had only four invigilators and a supervisor showing up, forcing PS Jwan who had earlier on supervised the distribution of exam papers at Kisii Central Sub County examination depot to remained in the school for more than one hour as senior education officials wrestled with the matter.

One of the invigilators showed up more than one hour late but PS Jwan turned him away as he called on the County Teachers Service Commission Director to take disciplinary action against the teachers.

Dr Jwan later ordered the County Director of Education and other senior sub-county officials in the Ministry of Education to invigilate the examination.
