Education Board tells public to stop lobbying for CBC abolition

Kisii County Education Board has asked the public to stop lobbying for the abolition of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) but instead come together and find possible ways of amending it.

Speaking at Kisii town on Thursday, the Board chairman Prof. Henry Onderi said that CBC had already taken root among learners who had gone through it for the last six years therefore abolishing it would negatively impact their lives.

While saying that the curriculum was good although costly to the parents, the Don asked those who were condemning the system to learn to be problem solvers  instead of being trouble shooters.

“The system has a few loopholes but that does not imply that we should  discard it as a whole,” he said.

Prof. Onderi who is an expert in education management commended President William Ruto for setting a commission to review the curriculum but appealed to him to choose the right people who will not politicize the matter at the expense of the child.

He however blamed the propagators of the curriculum for imposing it on the public without factoring in their views as is required.

“It is not too late to fine-tune the curriculum through stakeholders’ involvement,” he said.
