The University of Nairobi’s College of Health Sciences has benefitted from a donation of health care equipment worth Sh20 million donated jointly by the Hungarian-Slovenia health care development project.

Speaking during the handing over at the institution, the Principal Secretary for University Education and Research Simon Nabukwesi said the equipment will boost the country’s health care agenda.

He said the UoN’s School of Medicine and the Kenyatta National Hospital will continue to offer quality training in health services and provision of cutting edge research in improving health care.

The equipment include, nine modern hospital beds, two patient monitors, one surgical trolley with surgery tools, one hematology analyzer and two incubators.

Nabukwesi hailed the partnership between Kenya, Hungary and Slovenia. He said Hungary provides 100 scholarships to Kenyan students annually and that the short listing of over 1,300 applications will soon be done.

He encouraged medical students to pursue further education by applying for the Hungarian scholarships.

Hungarian Ambassador to Kenya Zsolt Mészáros said the Spinal Injury Hospital and the Kericho Teaching and Referral Hospital were also benefiting from the project.

He said the ultimate goal is to provide high quality medical equipment to designated hospitals in Kenya in order to contribute to the development of the country’s health care capacities, with a particular view to mitigating severity of the situation arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
