Twenty teachers escaped death narrowly after they were involved in a road accident on Saturday at Riabugutu junction in Kisii County.

According to eye witness Ms Anne Moraa, the matatu containing the teachers veered off the road on the stiff slope before the accident occurred.

The driver, who escaped with minor injuries, disclosed that the vehicle developed brake problems.

Good Samaritans took the passengers to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

Doctors said that 17 of the victims were treated and discharged but three others who sustained serious injuries were retained in the hospital for further medical attention.

“They were brought here with serious injuries but they are now stabilizing,” said CEO Enock Ondari.

Masaba sub county OCPD Samuel Gitau said the teachers were returning to their homes after visiting their relatives.

Mr Gitau said that his police officers have started investigations to establish the cause of the accident.

He assured the families and friends of the affected teachers that none of them were facing life-threatening injuries.
