Parents have been urged to make sure their children attend school or else they risk being arrested for keeping them at home.
Marani Sub county Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Patrick Mulira who was addressing Parents, Teachers and Students of Nyakeyo Secondary school in Kisii said all learners must be at school whether they had school fees or not.
The administrator further asked the chiefs and their assistants to arrest the parents who neglected to take their children to school.
“Some parents retain their children at home whereas others send them for employment as maids, this is against the law.” He warned.
Mr. Mulira reminded the principals to adhere to the education CS Prof. George Magoha’s directive not to send students at home for fees, but instead consult with parents on the modalities of payment.
He revealed that he had agreed with the office of the local Sub county Director of education at Marani to collect data of the students who had not returned to school when they opened, to enable him advise the affected parents accordingly.
The DCC decried the high rate of children’s abuse in the area and attributed it to the wayward youths who lure school girls into early marriages and premature sexual activities leading to early pregnancies.
Mr.Mulira, appealed to the churches and other Social community workers to intensify guidance and counseling services to the youth to enable them get direction and balance their lives for for better future.
Kitutu Chache North Member of parliament Jimmy Angwenyi on his part asked parents to invest in educating their children saying education was a lifelong investment.
The legislator said his office through the NG-CDF gives priority to issuance of education bursaries to the orphans and children from poor families.
