The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Yatta branch has lauded the ongoing rerouting of delocalized teachers.
Speaking in Kathithyamaa, the branch Executive Secretary Michael Kasimba Ngui regretted that most of the delocalized teachers were hospitalized, some died while others went through divorce.
Ngui said that the delocalization was ill-advised and did more harm than good to the education sector.
He lauded the National Assembly for abolishing the policy and asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure every delocalized teacher is taken back to their home county.
“We are happy that the process is ongoing and every teacher who was moved from their home counties will be back,” he said.
Ngui also said that as a union they will continue to push for teachers’ salary increase.
He also called on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to promptly pay teachers who invigilated and marked the 2022 national examinations.
Ngui reiterated KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu’s threat that teachers will not administer this year’s examinations if last year’s examiners are not paid.
