The County Government of West Pokot, in collaboration with the World Bank’s Director for Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Uganda, Eastern and Southern Africa region, Hon. Qimiao Fan, has launched an ultra-modern solarized borehole at Kaiwow.
Speaking during the inauguration, West Pokot Governor Hon. Simon Kachapin expressed gratitude to the World Bank, Treasury, and the FLLOCA organization for their invaluable support in building a resilient and highly empowered community, especially in the areas of education, health, and other sectors.
The project is funded under the Financing Locally Led Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation activities at the county and sub-county levels through locally led climate resilience initiatives.
FLLOCA has invested over 130 million in transformative projects across West Pokot, including water pans, tree and mango seedlings, pasture establishment, and the installation of solar energy for schools and homes, according to Governor Kachapin.

He added that these initiatives have positively impacted over 32,000 households, contributing directly to improved literacy levels, significantly higher school enrollment, and increased completion rates.
According to the World Bank, the program aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the support provided and the actions implemented. Additionally, it strengthens policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks at the county level to facilitate climate financing.
The initiative promotes equity, especially for marginalized groups like women, children, and youth. It also offers economic and employment benefits, exposing communities to environmentally friendly technologies that support low-carbon development.
