The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) will continue to support the girl child’s education and development and sensitize communities on the same, Chairperson Leah Sankaire has said.
Speaking at Riokindo Girls school where they issued sanitary towels and books worth Ksh500,000, Leah Sankaire said that the association will visit all counties to mentor girls in secondary schools, encourage them to complete their education and conquer their psychological and biological challenges.
The Chairperson, who doubles as Kajiado County Woman Representative, noted that many girls skipped classes during their periods disrupting their studies and culminating to poor results in national examinations.
“We are here to educate and help our daughters understand that their monthly periods are normal and should not deter them from pursuing their education,” she said.
Kisii County Woman Rep. Doris Aburi, who hosted the meeting, discouraged school girls from drug abuse and peer influence which mostly resulted to teenage pregnancies and early marriages.

Aburi urged well-wishers to assist her to uplift the life of girls from poor homes to access education by providing them with sanitary towels and paying their school fees.
Bomachoge Borabu Member of Parliament (MP) Eng. Obadiah Barongo donated Ksh70,000 including Ksh50,000 from the County First Lady.
He promised that his NG-CDF office will provide a school bus to the institution to ease their mobility during academic tours and sports.
The county nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri lauded the school for posting exemplary 2022 KCSE results and attributed it to the determination of the principal Mrs. Pamela Nyabuto.
Principal Pamela Nyabuto thanked the area KUPPET branch who took the initiative to assist the school after the recent burning of a dormitory.
She revealed that her school, with a 1,300-student population, has overstretched facilities such as dormitories, classrooms and laboratories and needed urgent attention to cater for the ever increasing student population.
The principal noted that they attained a mean score of 7.78 in 2022, with 195 students achieving direct university entry points out of 215 candidates.
She attributed the good performance to hardworking from students and teachers’ cooperation.
“This year we target a mean of 8 plus and ask for your prayers for our girls to reach there,” she said.
The event was graced by Women Senators, MPs and Woman Reps who included Catherine Mumma, Philes Bartoo of Moiben constituency, Lilian Siyoi of Trans Nzoia county, nominated MP Irene Mayaka, Mombasa Woman Rep. Zamzam Mohammed, Joyce Kamene of Kitui county and Bokimonge ward MCA Amos Onderi.
