Gusii Empowerment Women Forum has vowed to fight drug and substance abuse in the region in order to save the lives of the youth who are constantly exposed to the vices.

Speaking during their ever first meeting, the Chair of the group Esnas Nyaramba said the use of bhang by students in the region is alarming.

“We came up with the resolution to fight the vice because if it continues we are not going to have good families in future,” she said, commending the National Authority for Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuses (NACADA) for its effort to stop drug abuse but reprimanded some street vendors who sold drugs to the youth.

She appealed to other organizations to join Fr Lawrence Nyaanga, the NACADA chairman in Kisii County, to ensure the area is a drug freer zone.

Dr Magdaline Gesare said that their conversation is around Gender Based Violence (GBV), women economic, entrepreneurship, Cancer and mental health, cultural identity, self-care and the law.
