Woman suspected of selling marijuana to students in Nyamira finally arrested

Nyamira Police officers have arrested a woman suspected of selling marijuana to school children.

Acting on a tip from the public, Kitutu Central location Chief Mr. Oroti led the security officers in arresting Margaret Gesare who was found preparing several rolls of the drug in her house.

“She was packing them in preparation to sell them to school girls and boys, some of whom testified to us,” he said.

Nyamira County Commissioner Onesmus Kioko lauded the local authorities for acting with speed to curb drug abuse and sale of illicit brew in the region.

He said that development in the area would be next to impossible if sale and drug abuse in the area remains rampant.

National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Nyamira Chairman Charles Nyakoe blamed police for tolerating the vice.

He alleged that the police release drug peddlers and brewers of illicit alcohol after being bribed.

“The Police keep on frustrating efforts of Nyumba Kumi groups who arrest the suspects but release them after a few days to threaten their lives,” he said.

Nyakoe noted that the arrested woman had become a notorious drug trafficker because she enjoyed immunity from some known security officers.

He appealed for co-operation between the Police and Nyuma Kumi officers to assist in identifying and eliminating law breakers from the area before they ruined the youth.
