Woman Rep issues Ksh2.4 million bursaries to 300 needy learners

Isiolo Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya has disbursed bursary funds worth Ksh2.4 million to over 300 needy but bright learners in secondary schools and tertiary colleges.

Speaking while issuing out the cheques at Isiolo town, Bonaya said those in secondary schools will each receive Ksh5, 000 while their counterparts in college will receive Ksh10, 000 each.

She noted that through the bursary scheme, she aims to ensure all needy learners get education, which is the only equalizer between the poor and the rich.

The women rep dismissed claims that the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) funds had been misused, arguing that she had never been implicated for embezzlement of funds at any of her previous stations.

She noted that having previously served as the Education Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reign hence she is well versed with the challenges that teachers and parents face, and will help solve them for the benefit of the learners.

The lawmaker distributed 500 chairs and desks to 10 public schools across the county, an initiative aimed at ensuring pupils are comfortable while in school and can concentrate on their studies.

She urged parents to enroll their children into local Technical and Vocational Centres (TVCs) to acquire hands on skills for employability.
