Woman Rep calls for sanity amid rising cases of child defilement

By Enock Okong’o

More than 40 school-going children from Nyamira County have been defiled by close relatives this year alone according to Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusah Momamyi.

The Woman MP who addressed a congregation at Tente SDA church in the county recently, attributed the evils to some of the wayward pastors who failed at leading the youth and also committing adultery themselves.

“Some pastors take advantage of their positions to lure innocent youth into dirtying their bodies,” she claimed.

Jerusah cited  a recent case where a pastor eloped with a school girl and appealed to the associated church to excommunicate him and surrender him to the police for arrest and consequent arraignment in the Court of law.

She appealed to the county’s children department to compile the defilement cases and forward them to her office so as to follow up on the matter.

Nyamira Township Ward MCA, Mr. Duke Masira concurred with Jerusah’s sentiments and castigated parents whose children were abused but decided to settle the matter locally allowing the child defilers to buy their freedom.

Masira appealed to the office of the County Commissioner, Mr. Michsel Lesimamu to intervene and come up with measures to curb the ever increasing cases of the vice.

He promised to spy on suspected Chiefs and their Assistants who kept silent as children suffered under their watch.

“Administrators are also parents who should stand firm to protect our children against all social abuses.” He concluded.
