A viral story making rounds online claims that a woman in Uganda was sentenced to six years in jail after rejecting a marriage proposal from a man who had reportedly sponsored her education for over a decade.
According to the circulating narrative, the young hardworking Omuganda began supporting her in 2015, with a simple understanding that; Once she finishes school and graduated, our young Omuganda friend would see a return on his investment.
Years later, 10 to be exact of paying school fees and supporting her lifestyle she completed her studies, the young woman is said to have had a change of heart. She had just graduated for god’s sake; there was no way she was jumping straight to marriage.
Moreover, when she agreed to marry our Omuganda friend, she was just young and uneducated.
She could not marry this man! She turned down the marriage proposal, prompting the man to seek legal redress.
He couldn’t believe it. A ten-year investment down the drain? “Ssente ziwedde bwereere!” or better yet “yaani pesa zangu zimekunywa maji namna hiyo”

After presenting evidence beyond reasonable doubt, the court found the young woman guilty and sentenced her to 6 years in prison.
While the internet has reacted with a mix of shock and humor, many joking about “who still pays school fees for their girlfriends” in relationships? The story raises more eyebrows than legal precedent.
In reality, there is no verified evidence or credible court record to support the claim. Still, the tale has sparked lighthearted debate online, with many concluding that emotional investments should probably not come with binding terms and conditions.
