One week after part of Nyabigena Secondary School was burnt down by suspected students, the police in Kisii County have arrested a woman suspected to have been selling beer to the students from the institution.
After grilling 27 students who were suspended from the school over their involvement in the arson, the area chief and his assistants, invaded the brewing den of Gladys Okenye and arrested her with several liters of the prohibited changaa brew.
The woman was taken to Ogembo police station to record a statement on why she sold the brew to the school boys. Upon being grilled, she admitted that she has been colluding with school boys where they deposited money at a marked hole behind the school fence.
“That is a place I could collect the money at night as I leave the brew for the boys to collect,” testified the woman.
Kisii South Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Edong Nanok confirmed her arrest.

“The suspect was arrested by my security officers after tips from the chief and the villagers,” he briefed as he thanked the community for volunteering information that led to the arrest of the suspect.
Members of Nyabigena Community who talked to Education News revealed that the suspect was a notorious brewer who practiced the vice with impunity. They said that she was arrested several times for the same act of selling the illicit brew but wondered how she found her way back from the police cells.
“This time round, we want to monitor closely in the cells to see if she had godfathers who have been protecting her,” promised Robert Okeyo, a community member.
The Deputy county commissioner said that the suspect will appear in the court of law after the investigations were over.
Mr. Nanok sent a stern warning to those who lured students into using the intoxicating brew, adding that the long arm of the law will catch up with them.
