On Tuesday May 27, 2025 will be the deadline for the submission of applications for the position of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
This is after the expiry of Dr. Nancy Macharia’s 10 year term. Yesterday, Dr. Macharia remarked that as she ends her 10 year service on June 30th, she can look back with an incredible tinge of satisfaction for the milestones she achieved in the teaching service.
Let’s have a look of the possible professionals who might succeed Dr. Macharia in the upcoming battle of titans at the upper hill office.

To start with is Cheptumo Ayabei, who is a long serving staffer at the TSC headquarters. The trained teacher of Mathematics and Economics from Kenyatta University is touted as a serious candidate. He is the current finance Director. The soft spoken and workaholic Cheptumo hails from Baringo County.

Antonina Lentoijoni is the current Director of staffing is also viewed as a possible candidate in the race. The docket she holds is seen as among the powerful ones in the commission. She is shrewd in privacy and the always wins accolades from teachers due to her sense of professional. Antonina once taught at Korisai secondary school where her former students describe her as one of the best teachers of their time before joining TSC secretariat. She hails from Samburu County.

Dr. Julius Jwan holds Bachelors of Education degree from Moi University could also be another possible candidate. He served as a teacher, a university lecturer at Moi University and later a dependable technocrat in curriculum affairs.

Dr. Jwan holds a PhD and he is the immediate former Director of Kenya institute of curriculum development (KICD). He also served as a Principal Secretary in the State Department of TVET and Basic Education in the previous regime.
The Ministry of Education’s Director General, Elyas Abdi is seen and rumored by many as a possible replacement of Dr. Macharia. Abdi’s name has always been mentioned in various quarters.

He was once an official of Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) as a principal before moving to ministry of Education. Abdi is seen as a candidate who understands teachers’ affairs courtesy of his earlier stint as a principal and KESSHA official.

Gabriel Mathenge is the current personal assistant of the TSC CEO and doubles as the Director of the recently created Directorate of operations. He once served in the Directorate of Teacher professional development as a deputy Director.

He is regarded as one of the most powerful individual at the TSC headquarters. His mention always sends shivers among the secretariat staff. He is considered as a possible replacement as he fully understands the operations of the commission for quite some time.
Lastly, is Dr. Wilson Sossion, the former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, who is viewed as a possible candidate in the race.

He is the president’s ally who always defends the Kenya kwanza government policies in various media houses. Dr. Sossion holds Masters and PhD degree in various education disciplines. He was recently shortlisted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) for Principal Secretary position but was not appointed.
