The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has eulogized the late Prof. Everett Standa who passed on yesterday after a long illness.
Through his official X account (formerly twitter), Wetangula said Prof. Standa’s career saw him serve in diverse capacities as a distinguished don in different universities.
He was a lecturer in various universities, Vice Chancellor (VC) at Kenyatta University, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Commission of University Education (CUE).
“I am disheartened by the demise of Professor Standa Maraka Everett. His enduring contributions to the education sector and critical thinking will be enshrined and cherished. Professor Sitanda exemplified an exceptional array of qualities and exhibited an acute acumen for educational administration,” said Wetangula.
Prof. Sitanda served as VC at Kenyatta University between 2003 and 2006, and later appointed as Secretary and CEO of the then Commission for Higher Education (now Commission for University Education) between 2006 and 2013.
He will be remembered as Founder Director of Moi University Privately Sponsored Students Program (PSSP) and Founder Principal of the Western University College (WEUCO), which was a constituent college of Moi University before elevation to a full university – Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
Aggrey Namisi, Second Vice National Chairman of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), also eulogized the great scholar as an astute education administrator.
“He was a great man of inestimable quality, a visionary and innovative leader, and a nation builder, who had touched the lives of many positively as characterized by his honesty, sincerity, integrity, devotion and selfless service to the education sector,” he said.
