Western region’s secondary school games workshop training set to begin tomorrow

Kenya Secondary Schools’ Sports Association (KSSSA) Western region will begin its 2024 Regional Workshop training for coaches and referees on Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Peter’s Boys High School in Mumias.

In a Circular signed by the Regional Quality Assurance and Standards Officer (QASO) Teresa Songwa on behalf of Regional Director of Education (RDE) Jared Obiero and copied to the TSC Regional Director, the two-day training is expected to end on Saturday, January 27 and each participant has been directed to pay Ksh2,500 for certification, facilitation and training materials.

Further, Headteachers and Principals in the region have been asked to release their coaches to attend the training in preparation for the 2024 co-curricular activities, with coaches being asked to confirm their participation.

“The Regional Director of Education’s office in conjunction with the KSSSA-Western region has organized the above course to be held at St. Peter’s Boys High School-Mumias on January 26, 2024 and January 27, 2024 as from 8:30 am. The course is aimed at equipping coaches and referees with the current coaching techniques and the rule changes in the various games,” reads the Circular which was addressed to Games teachers and Team Managers through their respective Headteachers and Principals.

The training course will cover games in athletics, swimming, badminton, lawn tennis, netball, football, rugby, handball, hockey and basketball; with the Regional Education Office in the Circular further requesting Heads of Institutions to facilitate the registration and subsistence fees for the Games teachers and Team Managers.
