Western Kenya Scholars confident the President-Elect will deliver his manifesto

By Roy Hezron

Scholars from Western Kenya have affirmed their support for President-Elect His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto stating that they are motivated by his position on matters of great interest, especially education to the region.

The scholars through the Western Scholars Organization lead by Prof. Sammy Kubasu Kwashe noted that their support is inspired by Dr. Ruto’s plan to increase funding in all sectors of education: employment of additional staff (teachers and lecturers) to cater for the staffing shortage; improve infrastructure in schools, colleges and universities; construction of additional schools, colleges, Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Institutions and Universities and polish and review the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) while involving stakeholders.

“We have total confidence that the President-Elect and his team will be able to address the desires of scholars in Western region and the country at large. We guarantee our total support as we have done during the just concluded presidential campaigns,” said Prof. Kubasu in a statement dated August 19, 2022.

They further stated that Dr. Ruto’s commitment to implement all stalled Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) in universities, colleges and schools would go a long way in solving perpetual strikes in learning institutions.

The scholars further noted that they were moved by Dr. Ruto’s plan of alleviation of poverty, housing scheme, reduction in the cost of farm inputs, promotion of cottage industry through value addition such as pottery and basketry in Kakamega and sesame seeds (simsim) in Busia which they noted was a novel idea.

“The President-Elect Dr. Ruto is an icon of excellence and motivation to every Kenyan,” stated Prof. Kubasu.
