Butere Girls, coached by Edwin Sakwa, are reigning national champions and 2024 East African silver medalists.
They delivered a statement win in their semi-final encounter by defeating Nyanza’s Kobala Girls 3-0.
Goals from Diana Anyango, Metrine Kitiavi, and Celestine Aludo ensured a smooth passage to the final as the Kakamega-based giants aim to defend their crown.
This year’s final is not just a battle for the national title—it is also a regional derby that highlights the strength and dominance of Western Kenya in schoolgirls’ football. Both Madira and Butere have already qualified for the East Africa Secondary School Games. However, Saturday’s fixture will determine who takes home the 2025 national trophy.
As the final looms, excitement is at fever pitch across Kakamega County. On his official Facebook page, Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa congratulated the regional finalists with the words, “Congratulations to the Musingu Scorpions and Butere Girls for the emphatic victories. All the best as we storm into the finals!”.
The public is invited to attend the final at the Mumias Sports Complex. Entry is free, and fans from across the country are expected to witness this historic clash.
