Former students of Chewoyet High School in West Pokot County have embarked on a major initiative to formally establish an alumni association, targeting members who attended the institution from the early 1960s to date.
The move seeks to reconnect generations of old boys, strengthen networking among professionals and leaders, and support the growth and development of the school.
According to interim organising secretary Kibet Parklea (1984–87), the alumni are currently tracing former students who joined the institution after it was converted from an agricultural college into a secondary school in the early 1960s.
He said the response so far has been encouraging, with many expressing willingness to take part in rebuilding ties with their former school.
Chewoyet High School has produced several prominent figures who have served the country in various capacities.
Among them is the late former vice president Michael Wamalwa Kijana. Other notable alumni include the late Prof. Jonathan Ngeno, a former Cabinet Minister and the late Jacob Parklea, who once served as West Pokot KANU chairman.

The school also counts retired chief of general staff Daudi Tonje among its distinguished former students. Others are retired commissioner of prisons Edward Lopokoyit, Ambassador (Rtd) Stephen Loyatum, former Permanent Secretary Torome Saitoti and Ambassador Orina.
In sports, former Harambee Stars players Patrick Shim and Captain (Rtd) Joe Birgen are also alumni of the institution. Bishop Emeritus Stephen Kewasis and John Pkech Ngimor, the first Pokot university graduate, equally passed through Chewoyet.
The old boys have stated that the first alumni meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Horizon Hotel.
Organisers say the meeting will serve as a curtain-raiser for future engagements aimed at strengthening unity among former students and giving back to the school.
