West Pokot teachers were inducted on the senior school CBE training coursework which is designed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement the CBE curriculum.
Speaking during the inauguration of the training conducted at Kapenguria Boys in West Pokot County, the Deputy TSC County Director Paul Kamas advised teachers to shift from the chalk education mode to a more dynamic system of teaching.
Kamas emphasized the crucial role teachers played by teachers in shaping the next generation of learners and the importance of their dedication and hard work in implementing the CBE curriculum effectively.
The importance of Senior Competency Based education is to retool teachers with requisite skills and competencies that would bring out the necessary potentials and natural abilities from learners.
During the training programme, more than 273 High school teachers were retooled.

According to the chief trainer Dr.Nakhisa Kusimba, the pathways and subjects that come with CBE curriculum offers three main pathways which are; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focuses on science, math, and technology, with subjects like mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science.
Secondly, there’s Arts and Sports Science which covers creative arts, performing arts, and sports-related fields, which includes music, dance, fine arts, theatre, and film.
The third learning area involves, Social Sciences humanities, languages, and business studies, with subjects like history, geography, business studies, and religious education.
In the new system there are compulsory Subjects which have to be taken by all learners which include, English, Kiswahili/Sign Language, Physical Education, Community Service Learning, and ICT skills.

The training aims to equip teachers with the competencies needed to handle the new senior school curriculum and has seen over 7,000 school principals trained, and more than 229,292 primary school teachers and 75,000 junior school teachers retooled.
The coursework focused on developing practical skills and competencies involving, career guidance and counseling where teachers were taught how to provide guidance and support the students in choosing well pathways and subjects.

It also aims to enhance student learning, focus on developing practical skills and competencies that prepare students for the workforce or further education.
The training also promotes inclusivity and equity, ensure that all students have access to quality education and opportunities for growth and development.
