West Pokot KNUT Woman Representative Fridah Arusho has appreciated teachers who diligently do their work until they reach retirement age.

Speaking at Kapsurum School, where Teacher Rispah Mwale had worked for 41 years. She described the teacher as an icon who had touched the lives of many, especially in the teaching of English and Science, where she attained the County’s top awards in both Uasin Gishu and West Pokot.

In her exceptional speech, Fridah asked the Government to give top priority to the employment of P1 teachers whose families had exhausted the meagre resources they had to ensure that they completed their training, only to face another significant obstacle: the lengthy process of securing employment.

She asked the government to intensify security in bandit-prone areas, such as Lami Nyeusi, Cheptulel, Sarmach, and Chesegon, so that effective learning could be realised in these areas.

“Imagine, the dangers of insecurity have made learners resort to early marriages, which has resulted in early pregnancies and learners engaging in boda boda business at the expense of learning,” she posed.

Arusho asked the TSC to consider taking back home willing teachers who had been delocalized from their home counties after the National Assembly rescinded the policy.

The Woman representative asked the TSC to seriously think about the teaching of Art, Craft, and Music in Junior schools because most of the teachers were meeting the subjects for the first time. It would have been better to hire retired experts in that field or engage Primary School teachers who were endowed with the requisite skills in those critical learning areas.

She asked TSC to consider increasing the promotion slots and give special preference to aged teachers who have a short time left to retire, rather than promoting newly employed teachers at the expense of the old guard. “This is just evil,” she stated.

The presiding headteacher, Catherine Ngolenyang, during the function, thanked the retired teacher for assisting the school in reaching the highest level of academic standards and wished her well as she embarked on her new journey into retirement.

The area Chief, Mr.Haron Kapsoyo Sitienei, asked parents to support learning and all other programmes, which included tree planting.

He asked the youth to embrace learning and lead responsible lives to avoid clashing with law enforcement agencies.
