Nasokol Primary School Headteacher Cecilia Ngige has said that focus has shifted towards improving the teaching of Mathematics, Science, and English, subjects that previously garnered modest results in national examinations in West Pokot.

She said that under the School-Based Teacher Support System (SBTSS) initiative, championing teachers in every sub-county’s educational zones facilitate seminars and workshops, fostering professional development among their peers.

Cecilia noted that Kishaunet zone has been at the forefront of these efforts.

She further added that on October 6, 2023, SBTSS teachers from the zone gathered at Nasokol Primary School for their routine workshop.

“During this workshop, teachers diligently prepared schemes of work, lesson plans, notes, and teaching aids, all of which were actively used in teaching class 8 candidates at Nasokol Primary School,” she said.

Additionally, Cecilia highlighted that in these instructional sessions, dedicated teachers of mathematics, English, and science actively engaged with their students, adhering to the SBTSS requirements.

She said that while one teacher took the lead, others observed and made notes for potential improvements, filling out observation sheets.

“Since the implementation of the SBTSS in our schools, the teaching of Mathematics, English, and Science has significantly improved in our schools and West Pokot County as a whole,” the school head stated.

She also mentioned that this success story extends to the schools in the Kishaunet zone cluster, including Nasokol, Nangrotum, Kadongou, Lokurnoi, Tampalal, Nateleng, Kapyemut, Totum, Kachepkai, and Kaplelach Koror Primary Schools.
