Talau Comprehensive School celebrated Mazingira Day in style by planting over 2,000 trees as the school community and parents came together for the exercise.
Speaking during the all-important initiative, the school head Barnabas Chirchir said that the national tree planting campaign is a very significant programme that’s under the presidential programme for accelerated restoration of forests and rangelands whose target is to plant over 15 billion trees by 2032.
He challenged villagers to restore the former forest cover of Talau and its environs that has been degraded over the years, asking learners to be advocates of environmental restoration.

Chirchir stressed the importance of promoting environmental awareness, saying it is entrenched in the school system since planting of trees is a continuous process by learners and teachers.
The tree seedlings were given to the school by the area Member of Parliament Samuel Moroto and Kerio Valley Development Authority (KTDA).
Moi Day, which has since been renamed Mazingira Day, has transformed from taking care of the less privileged, preservation of our cultural heritage into environmental restoration and advocacy.
