More than 550 girls from Tuwan Girls benefited from the Church’s donation of sanitary towels, among other items.

Speaking during the exercise, the church’s overseer, Bishop Dr. Samuel Nyatera, explained that the church had resolved to lend a hand to the school to improve the performance of learners.

He emphasised that menstrual hygiene is crucial for girls’ education and overall well-being.

“The church is aware of high poverty index levels and would do all that it takes to improve the general well-being of learners and parents’He said.

The bishop stated that the donation would go a long way in improving the overall health of learners and their general school attendance.

According to the Board Chairman, Alphonse Maliambo, most girls miss school during their periods and also because they lack the appropriate materials to use during this time.

He stated that this, coupled with lower academic performance and missing classes, ultimately led to poor academic performance.

The school’s principal, Ms Margaret Koinange, thanked the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Fraternity for their kind donation and stated that, just as the girls were in dire need of assistance, the community seriously needed food, clothing, and other necessities.

She stated that unhygienic materials that the girls have constantly used can lead to infections and other health-related complications.

Adding that there are situations when girls face social isolation and even embarrassment during their periods because of a lack of sanitary towels.

“On many occasions, we teach hungry learners in class because they all hail from very challenging backgrounds, and as such, I am encouraging donors to help in addressing these challenges in kind or cash.

She outlined that good performance was pegged on teaching a motivated and healthy learner. She asked the church to maintain the same spirit and help parents get the best out of their own children.

“The church has been so handy on funding, logistics and community engagement.”She said.
