West Pokot ECDE teachers urged to expose learners to early literacy

West Pokot County Early Childhood Development Education, (ECDE) teachers have been urged to expose learners to early literacy to boost confidence as they grow.

Speaking during the ongoing UNICEF sponsored ECDE workshops in the county; the trainer said early literacy builds confidence in them as they grow up and help them in their academic progress.

Teachers were also encouraged to use teaching and learning aids as young learners quickly understand concepts by seeing.

“Identifying letters and combining them to make words through repeated practice of reading those words allows the learners to pronounce the words properly and gradually understanding the meaning of those words.”

Early preparation also allows the teacher to assemble and prepare teaching and learning aids in time.

“For any lesson to be taught, early preparation is very important as the teacher organizes to implement the lesson systematically.”

The teaching and learning aids should be bold enough for learners to see and read.

It’s also necessary for the teacher to ensure that all learners in the classroom participate in the lesson and those who take time to understand concepts are also assisted.
