Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Machakos Executive Secretary Musembi Katuku has said that the area teachers will down their tools if the proposed three percent salary cut for the housing levy proposed by President Ruto is passed.
“The Constitution in Article 40 and 41 allows workers the right to strike if they are not in agreement with their employers and it should be known that we are not far from there,” he noted.
Addressing journalists in Machakos on Friday, Katuku said that the union will not support the Bill and urged Legislators to reject it in its entirety.
“If you do hear and care about the voices of civil servants, you need to shut down the Bill,” he said.
He noted that teachers have schemes and Saccos which have been helping them for years to build houses and develop their lives plus the cost of living is already sky high.
Katuku observed that if the government goes ahead to further tax teachers’ salaries, the education sector will be heavily affected in the near future.
