We will invest in varsities’ infrastructural development, says PS

State Department for University Education and Research Principal Secretary Amb. Simeon Nabukwesi now says the government is commited to invest infrastructural development in all universities across the country.

Nabukwesi while speaking to the press in Eldoret town said that the move will ensure that students get quality education since there has been a big increase in those interested with higher education.

“The government through the Ministry of Education is investing in infrastructural development expansion to cope up with the increasing number of students, we will ensure that they have enough infrastructure for our children to get quality education,” said the Principal Secretary.

He says according to statistics, there has been an increasing number of students who have finished form four joining universities and with the limited resources pushing facilities like accommodate to its limits and thus the need to prioritize on infrastructure.

“As a country, we are far from achieving optimum requirements to accommodate students and provide facilities so that we are globally competitive when it comes to standards. Government is at the forefront providing bulk of the funding, universities are also mobilizing resources through their own ways to ensure that they offer quality and not quantity education,” Amb. Nabukuesi said.

He further called on universities to ensure that they offer marketable courses.

“Let us ensure that we offer courses that when our students finish their years in universities they do not tarmac for long looking for employment, let us teach courses that are market oriented and up to date,” he added.

Amb. Nabukuesi said that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its portal for students to change their course and university at will.

“KUCCPS portal has already been opened and will go all the way to 30th September. Let us take advantage and use this chance, students should use that opportunity to choose courses and universities of their choice where in one way or the other, made a mistake,” he concluded.
