A total of 521 teachers in Samburu County were recently promoted out of 750 who attended the promotional interviews, being the highest number of promotions recorded in in a row.

Kenya Union Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Samburu has now urged Teachers Service Commission to continue promoting more teachers in Samburu and other arid and semi-arid land (ASAL) counties, revealing that majority of the teachers from the county who applied for the promotions and attended the interviews were successful.

KUPPET Samburu Executive Secretary William Lengoyiap told Education News that they are delighted after the promotion letters starting to stream, adding that the teachers of Samburu are happy.

“We are delighted to have got the highest ever number of promotions on a single interview. We attribute this to the struggle of teachers and I where we tirelessly pushed for affirmative action. These are the fruits of our struggle,” said Lengoyiap.

“I urge the commission to have even more slots to Samburu and other ASAL counties to bridge the gap because we still have a higher percentage of grade C3 and C4 not promoted. As Executive Secretary, I ask the commission to expedite payment of acting allowance and expedite their confirmation,” he added.

Lengoyiap further asked the union national Office to stop interfering with the affairs of the branch noting that the teacher of Samburu are contented with his work as dully elected Executive Secretary and do not need any external interference.

“The teachers of Samburu are not happy with meddling of the national office on Samburu Branch affairs. Teachers are demanding that the national office desist from meddling with branch affairs and allow the Elected Executive Secretary do his work failure to which they take unspecified action on anyone who meddle with branch affairs,” he said.
