Water companies in Murang’a beseeched to give students industrial attachments

Stdents of Wanjohi Vocational Training Centre listen as their case for industrial attachment is pleaded.

Water companies in Murang’a have been asked to give youth pursuing water-related courses an opportunity for industrial attachment.

Murang’a County Assembly Chief Whip Morris Thuku said it was prudent for the water service providers to afford the local students the chance to serve residents in the areas they come from.

The MCA raised the concerns when stakeholders of Gatamathi Water and Sanitation Company supplying water to Kiru, Rwathia and Gaturi Wards approved tariffs for 2024 to 2029.

Thuku, also the MCA for Kiru Ward in Mathioya Constituency, said Murang’a County Government has facilitated youth to study in the vocational training centres where plumbing is one of the courses.

“In Kiru Ward, we have Wanjohi Vocational Training Centre with 40 students taking plumbing courses, and it would be wise if Gatamathi Water and Sanitation Company considers our plea,” he said.

The company MD Charles Muriuki said the matter will be taken up by the board as they are interested in having a solid partnership with the vocational training centres.

“The matter raised by the MCA is a noble idea that should be supported,” said Muriuki.

Murang’a has five water service providers, namely Gatanga, Murang’a South ( Muswasco), Murang’a Water (Muwasco), Murang’a West, and Gatamathi regulated by Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB).
