Wanga Technical and Vocational College in Mumias East Sub-county has appealed to the government to provide them with a new bus to ease transport.
The principal Grace Opwora said they hire public service vehicles to be ferried to desired locations, creating undue delays in their schedules.
Use of public vehicles, she said, forces the management to dig deeper into their finances, including personal interventions to meet necessary transport costs.
Neighbouring institutions have new buses, prompting the institution’s management to demand for their own that can also be hired out and comfortably pay workers.
She was speaking during rehearsals for Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) exams overseen by the supervisor Doughlous Wanyonyi for candidates doing modules one and two in business and technical courses.
Wanyonyi said he would comply with KNEC rules and regulations to curb cheating.
Despite the transport challenge, Opwora said a total of 57 candidates are determined to pass their exams, which end on November 25.
A part from the school bus, she said the main challenge facing the institution is lack of hostels, forcing students to find accommodation outside.
Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) allocates about 200 students to the institution, but they end up not reporting due to lack of accommodation.
Shortage of classrooms has hit the institution that has only eight, with the introduction of more courses forcing learning to take place on corridors.
